Meusburger's Great Bad Gastein Showing

Up until last week, Meusburger's six best WTA outings all occurred here - a runner-up showing in 2007, a semifinal showing in 2010 and quarterfinal appearances in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012. In fact, she had never been beyond the second round of a WTA event outside of Bad Gastein until her run to the final last week in Budapest.
Then, fresh off that performance, Meusburger recorded the first WTA main draw 60 60 win of her career in her Bad Gastein opener over Jasmina Tinjic. That was a far cry from their only other encounter that occurred just two weeks ago at an ITF Women's Circuit event in Versmold, with Meusburger winning 7-6 in the third set.
"It was pretty quick," Meusburger said of Wednesday's 59-minute affair. "I think I played really well, with aggression and a lot of spin. I took advantage of her mistakes. I'm very happy."
Fellow Austrian Lisa-Maria Moser also made news, advancing to the quarterfinals in her first WTA main draw. The wildcard was up 62 43 on No.1 seed Mona Barthel when the German had to retire with a shoulder injury. Next up for Moser is Andrea Hlavackova, who made her second WTA quarterfinal with a 57 61 60 win over Viktorija Golubic.
Eighth-seeded Karin Knapp also made the quarters with a 76(5) 46 61 defeat of Alexandra Cadantu that lasted two hours and 49 minutes. In fact, just the first set went one hour and 16 minutes, and featured Knapp taking a 4-0 lead and losing five straight games before eventually winning the tie-break.
