Nanchang's New WTA 125K Series Event

The Jiangxi International Women's Tennis Open in Nanchang, a WTA 125K Series event that will make its debut the week of July 21, was officially announced at Jiangxi Province Stadium last week.

NANCHANG, China - The newest addition to the WTA 125K Series - the Jiangxi International Women's Tennis Open - was officially announced at a special press conference this past week.

The stars of the WTA shone at the press conference. Two-time Grand Slam champion and former World No.2 Svetlana Kuznetsova sent her best wishes for the tournament via video message, while two-time Grand Slam semifinalist Zheng Jie attended in person and hit with young local players.

Also attending the press conference were Alfred Zhang, the Tournament Director of the China Open in Beijing, Sun Jinfang of the Chinese Tennis Association, and Peter Johnston and Chen Shu of the WTA.

Set for July 21 to 27, the Jiangxi International Women's Tennis Open is one of three WTA 125K Series events in China this year, alongside stops in Suzhou and Ningbo. It will be the first international sporting event to be held in Jiangxi province, and will be hosted by the State General Administration of Sports and the People's Government of Jiangxi Province, organized by the Tennis Sports Management Centre of the State General Administration of Sports and the Sports Bureau of Jiangxi Province, and co-organized by Jiangxi Tennis Sports Management Centre and Nanchang International Sports Centre.

And there's another special touch - a regional junior tournament will be held simultaneously at the Nanchang International Sports Centre that week, inviting juniors from 11 cities across Jianxi province.
