Coached by her parents, Marguerite and Georges...A baseline player who likes all surfaces, especially hard courts...Mother, a nurse, helps her father, a dentist; has two younger brothers, Christophe and Alexandre, and an older sister, Victoria, who is a pharmacist...Graduated from high school in 1999...Is interested in astronomy...Enjoys reading (favorite author is Jack London), watching TV and listening and dancing to Armenian music (especially Tata Simonian and Nune Yessayan)...Most memorable experience was playing in the 1999 Pan Am Games in Erevan, Armenia...Favorite places to visit are Erevan, Rome and Melbourne...Admires her grandmother for her courage and kindness, and tennis players Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf and Gustavo Kuerten for their personalities.

2000 - After failing to qualify for several WTA Tour events, reached first main draw in her last tournament of the year in Philadelphia (l. 1r to Kolbovic)

2001 - First Top 100 finish, improving 261 spots to No. 78; as a qualifier and playing her second Tour main draw, reached Tashkent SF; reached first Tour final at Basel (l. to Gersi); qualified for first Grand Slam at US Open; on home soil in Zurich, qualified for first Tier I event, d. world No. 13 Dementieva and No. 39 Panova to reach QF; afterwards (October 22) broke into Top 100 at No. 75

2002 - First Top 50 finish; played all four Grand Slams in one year for first time; won first Grand Slam match in Roland Garros debut, d. Kuti Kis in 3s (l. 2r to Schiavone in 3s); afterwards (June 10), broke into Top 50 for first time at No. 50; as No. 1 seed, captured first Tour singles title at Tashkent (d. Poutchek in final); at Quebec City, reached second final of 2002 with upsets over No. 1 seed Farina Elia and No. 3 seed Mag. 2003 - Injury-interrupted season; began as runner-up at Gold Goast, d. No. 1 seed Schnyder in SF (l. to Dechy in 3s); retired during 1r match at Australian Open vs. Gagliardi with left rib stress fracture which kept her off Tour until Miami in March; reached Stanford QF (l. to eventual champion Clijsters) and 3r at Berlin (d. world No. 17 Sugiyama; l. to No. 9 Hantuchova 76 third set) and Birmingham

2004 - Reached 3r at Charleston (as No.85 WC, upset No.22 Zuluaga 62 62 en route, l. to eventual champion V.Williams), and 2r at Indian Wells (l. to Zvonareva), Amelia Island (l. to Schnyder) and Birmingham (ret. vs Kremer with right shoulder strain); l. in 1r at Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and six other Tour events, and failed to qualify at another eight; reached one ITF Circuit singles final; withdrew from Palermo due to a right ankle injury.

2005 - Qualified for main draw at Tokyo [Pan Pacific], defeating Pratt in 1r before loss to No.3 seed Kuznetsova; drew top seed Li Na at Hyderabad and fell in straight sets in 1r.
