Caroline Wozniacki is looking to leave her ruthless mark on the last match Red Group; she dropped just four games across her first two matches at the WTA Finals and is carrying the momentum into her match against Caroline Garcia, who she’s beat two times previously in straight sets.

Wozniacki hasn’t lost more than five games a match against Garcia in the past; if she wins and drops six or less games on Friday she’ll become the player to lose the fewest games in a WTA Finals group stage (three complete matches). Justine Henin currently holds that record, losing just 11 games in the group stage of the 2007 WTA Finals.

Simona Halep will face old foe Elina Svitolina in the second and final match of the Red Group. The pair’s head-to-head record is split at 2-2, but Svitolina actually leads 2-1 in their 2017 matchups. Svitolina stopped Halep in the final of Rome and in the semifinals of Toronto - can she stop Halep one last time?

The World No.1 ranking is still in play, although retaining her top spot has become much easier for Halep after Garbine Muguruza’s loss to Venus Williams on Thursday. She needs to play just one more match - pending other results - to retain her No.1 ranking.

The doubles competition continues with four teams looking to claim the last two spots in the Singapore semifinals. No.2 seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, the defending champions, will face Gabriela Dabrowski and Xu Yifan. The unseeded duo actually lead their head-to-head series 1-0 after scoring a shocking win over the Russians en route to winning the Miami Open. No.4 seeds Ashleigh Barty and Casey Dellacqua will meet Kiki Bertens and Johanna Larsson for the first time.

QUALIFICATION SCENARIOS

Caroline Garcia’s last-gasp comeback against Elina Svitolina on Tuesday ensured that the Red Group is wide open:

Caroline Wozniacki has already advanced to the knockout stage, but her position isn’t determined. She will win the group unless she falls to Garcia, coupled with a Svitolina win, in which case she will be second to Garcia.

Simona Halep would be second in the group to Wozniacki by winning her match against Svitolina. She could also finish second to Wozniacki with a three-set loss coupled with a Wozniacki win. But if Svitolina wins in straight sets, along with a Wozniacki victory, Svitolina could finish in the No.2 spot.
