Garcia not seeking revenge over Halep in Montreal

MONTREAL, Canada - Simona Halep may have beaten Caroline Garcia in the quarterfinals of last year's Rogers Cup - but that does not mean the Frenchwoman is out for vengeance when they clash at the same stage in the same tournament today.
"After Toronto [in the Rogers Cup last year], we played each other again," Garcia told reporters after her Round of 16 victory over Maria Sharapova. "She won. I won. I mean, we often play each other. If it's a revenge each time, it's going to be complicated. I will just focus on [the] match and try to draw the lessons from the past. There's no particular revenge."
The 24-year-old knows it will be a tough test against the World No.1.
"She has very few weaknesses. She's solid on all shots. I will have to be aggressive with my power and use my assets. Generally she's able to prevent me from playing my game."
Direction les 1/4 de finale à la Coupe Rogers !
Merci Montréal pour le soutien et cette superbe ambiance sur ce central 🤗 On se revoit à 18h30 pour la suite ! 💪🏻👊🏻🎾👧🏻🇨🇦🦁✈ #FlyWithCaro #CoupeRogers pic.twitter.com/2yLDc1kzjT— Caroline Garcia (@CaroGarcia) August 10, 2018
Currently World No.6, Garcia knew she would have to work hard to get past Maria Sharapova in the Round of 16; in their previous encounters, the Russian had logged four wins to the Frenchwoman's one.
"It was special to finally beat her after a good fight," Garcia admitted afterwards. "You know, to beat Maria Sharapova, doesn't matter which ranking she has, it's always special because she has a lot of experience - she's a great fighter on court."
And she was pleasantly surprised by the amount of support she got from the Montreal crowd - and hopes for more of the same against Halep.
"Maria Sharapova is famous all around the world, but I realized when they said my name that I was being supported," she noted. "I think for women's tennis it's a very good crowd, and they were really enthusiastic. I really am happy that I played well here. I hope I will be able to do the same tomorrow."
