Montreal 2018: Svitolina wishes Buzarnescu a speedy recovery from ankle injury
MONTREAL, Canada - Defending Rogers Cup champion Elina Svitolina sent her best wishes to stricken opponent Mihaela Buzarnescu, who suffered an ankle injury during their Round of 32 clash.
"I feel really bad for her," the 23-year-old told reporters afterwards. "Hopefully she recovers quickly and comes back soon."
The Romanian hurt her right ankle in the third set of their encounter while trailing 6-3, 6-7(5), 4-3, and Svitolina talked with her and held her hand as she received medical treatment before being taken off the court in a wheelchair.
"I tried to help her, you know, to calm her down a bit," the Ukrainian explained. "It's really tough to see. Of course, for her to experience this. I could see straightaway it was serious. I was really shocked. It's terrible to see players getting injured that bad on court."
