WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai 2018: Current Standings

ZHUHAI, China - The first edition of the Hengqin Life WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai leaderboard is out, with Grand Slam champions Garbiñe Muguruza, Jelena Ostapenko, and Serena Williams all in the current standings.
Muguruza tops the leaderboard following her strong performance at this year's Roland Garros, where she reached the semifinals and fell to eventual champion Simona Halep.
Champion at the French Open last year, Ostapenko also moved into Zhuhai contention after her run at the All England Club, blasting into to the final four for the first time in her career. Fellow semifinalist Julia Goerges is also featured after her best-ever Grand Slam finish.
Held for the fourth straight year, WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai draw will once again feature 12 of the game's best players; eleven will qualify based on their performance on the leaderboard, with the final spot awarded to a wildcard, one who will undoubtedly be one to watch. Back in 2016, wildcard Zhang Shuai made it all the way into the semifinals.
Still in contention for qualifying is 2017 semifinalist Ashleigh Barty, who enjoyed her first run into the third round of Wimbledon two weeks ago. Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova is just outside the qualification places on the current standings.
