MATCH POINTS

2018 is the fifth edition of the BRD Bucharest Open, and third seed Irina-Camelia Begu is the defending champion, having beaten Julia Goerges in last year's final.

LOOK: From Halep to Begu - previous Bucharest winners

Top seed Anastasija Sevastova finished as runner-up in 2016, when she lost to Simona Halep in the final.

20-year-old Tamara Zidansek looks to continue her vein of excellent form, after winning over 40 matches so far this year and rising nearly 100 places in the rankings.

France's Pauline Parmentier faces Alexandra Dulgheru today. The pair have played each other twice before, with the Frenchwoman winning both times. Both encounters were on hard courts, and both wins were in straight sets.

Mariana Duque-Marino and Arantxa Rus play for the fifth time. However, they have not faced each other in five years, when Duque-Marino beat the Dutchwoman in straight sets on clay in Osprey, 6-1, 6-0.
