PARIS, France - The 2018 Roland Garros mixed doubles semifinals are set, and No.2 seeds Chan Yung-Jan (Latisha) and Ivan Dodig had to come back from set down to claim the last spot.
Up against Nicole Melichar and Alexander Peya, Chan and Dodig found themselves in trouble and on the ropes as the unseeded duo reeled off five games in a row to nab the opening set. A tense second set ensued with little to separate both teams until Melichar and Peya blinked first, surrendering the lone break to put Chan and Dodig back on even footing.
The match tiebreak was dead even until the No.2 seeds finally found their opening, rattling off four of the last five points to book their spot in the semifinals after a hard-fought hour and 18 minutes, 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Chan and Dodig will face the No.8 seeded duo of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah as they continue to seek their first mixed doubles Grand Slam title as a pairing - and the first mixed doubles major title of their careers.
Groenefeld and Farah needed two tight sets to see off Abigail Spears and Juan Sebastian Cabal, 7-6(3), 6-4.
On the other side of the draw, No.1 seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Mate Pavic edged past Demi Schuurs and Matwe Middelkoop, 6-4, 6-4. Dabrowski is the defending champion, having lifted the trophy last year with Rohan Bopanna but choosing not to compete together.
Dabrowski and Pavic will face the unseeded Katarina Srebotnik and Santiago Gonzalez in the semifinals after the pair survived a rollercoaster encounter against Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Marcelo Demoliner, 7-6(3), 2-6, 10-7.
