MONTERREY, Mexico - Naomi Broady and Sara Sorribes Tormo both celebrated winning their first WTA title after edging out Desirae Krawczyk and Giuliana Olmos 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 at the Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey.

Broady of Great Britain and Spain’s Sorribes Tormo were playing together for the first time after a chance meeting at Indian Wells turned into a winning partnership.

The 21-year-old Spaniard said, “I was coming out of the laundry room at Indian Wells when I saw Naomi and said to my coach: ‘Maybe I can play doubles with her.’”

Broady added, “After the first match we played together I said to my coach that we played really well together.

“I was really surprised because sometimes when you play with a new partner it can take a few matches to get used to how they play and what are their best shots. We have very different games styles – I like to hit flat and Sara plays with more spin – but it works really well.”

Broady and Sorribes Tormo fought off a strong challenge by American Krawczyk and Mexico’s Olmos - the first player from her country to reach a WTA final in the Open era - in the deciding tiebreak to secure victory.

The 28-year-old Briton now moves up 15 places in the doubles rankings to World No.70, while Sorribes Tormo jumps 69 places to World No.93.

Sorribes Tormo is now turning her attention to her favorite surface as she prepares for the Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogota, Colombia.

“I’m really happy the clay is back – I am going to Bogota and looking forward to it,” she said.
