No.5 seed Katerina Siniakova has not lost a set to wildcard Bernarda Pera in two pro matches, defeating the American 6-2, 6-4 in Beijing qualifying last year and 6-3, 6-4 in Sydney qualifying this January. However, Pera - the last home hope remaining in the draw - does own one victory over the Czech, having won 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals of the 2012 Grade 1 event in Umag en route to her biggest junior trophy.

Washington finalist Camila Giorgi has a 3-2 head-to-head lead over Lausanne finalist Alizé Cornet, having turned their rivalry around to win the last three encounters in a row. Four of their five matches have gone to three sets: Cornet won their 2014 Australian Open second round 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and four months later captured her fourth WTA trophy with a thrilling 7-6(3), 5-7, 7-5 win in the Katowice final, but Giorgi was able to avenge that loss on Cornet's home turf in the same year with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 first-round win in Strasbourg. The Italian would go on to notch up a 6-4, 6-2 win in Fed Cup in 2015 and a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 triumph in the first round of Wimbledon in 2017.

No.1 seed Wang Qiang is bidding for her first WTA semifinal outside Asia today against lucky loser Anna Blinkova, who is making her WTA quarterfinal debut. The Russian is seeking her third Top 20 win against Wang; both of her previous two came in Doha, where she upset Kristina Mladenovic in 2018 and Anastasija Sevastova this year.

No.10 seed Karolina Muchova has compiled a 26-9 win-loss record in 2019 so far (15-9 in WTA main draws), including her first final at home in Prague and a maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon. Qualifier Magda Linette is looking to make her second semifinal of the season following her last-four run in Hua Hin in February.
