No.2 seed Caroline Garcia takes on Antonia Lottner for the first time today. The 22-year-old German has never been ranked higher than World No.128 - but has developed a habit of knocking Top 30 players out of International events over the last three years, having eliminated Dominika Cibulkova from 's-Hertogenbosch in 2017, Elise Mertens from 's-Hertogenbosch in 2018 and Belinda Bencic from Lugano this April.

Qualifier Varvara Gracheva makes her WTA main draw debut today against No.6 seed Kateryna Kozlova. The 18-year-old Russian is a former junior Top 20 player who has raised her ranking from World No.447 to World No.212 this year thanks to three ITF W25 titles.

Swiss wildcard Tess Sugnaux also makes her debut in a WTA main draw today. The 24-year-old World No.478 faces qualifier Jasmine Paolini, who won their only previous encounter 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of an ITF W25 event in Santa Margherita di Pula in 2017.

Mona Barthel and Fiona Ferro square off for the second time in an International first round this season. Barthel won their topsy-turvy Hua Hin tilt 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, their only previous encounter.
