Madison Keys: Keys was the first winner of the claycourt season, triumphing at the Volvo Car Open in Charleston for her first career title on the surface overall.

The American arrived in Charleston having not won a match since the Australian Open, with opening exits in both Indian Wells in Miami, but rebounded in a big way to win her fourth career title.

Keys defeated, among others on the week, former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko and former finalist and top seed Sloane Stephens to reach her first final since the 2017 US Open, before scoring her first career win over Caroline Wozniacki in the championship match.

Petra Kvitova: Kvitova became the first two-time winner on the WTA this season with a triumph at the Premier-level Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart.

The Czech defeated qualifier Greet Minnen in the opening round before coming from a set down to defeat Anastasija Sevastova in the quarterfinals.

Her form continued with a three-set win over Kiki Bertens in the final four, before she ousted Anett Kontaveit in the championship match to seal her second title of the year, to go along with the trophy at the Sydney International.

Petra Martic: The Croat claimed the first title of her career at the BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup in Turkey last month, rounding into form on the back of a semifinal appearance at the Volvo Car Open in Charleston.

First reaching her first Premier-level semifinal of the season with wins over Amanda Anisimova and in-form Belinda Bencic, among others, before falling to Wozniacki, Martic rolled on to Istanbul and scored four three-set wins in five matches to win the title.

Martic earned another milestone in Istanbul, surviving the longest match of the season against Kristina Mladenovic en route to her first career title in the quarterfinal round.

"From Charleston on, things really started changing," she revealed. "I’m living the best days of my career now."
