MATCH POINTS

Kristina Mladenovic and Dayana Yastremska will face off for the first time. 18-year-old Yastremska is already a multiple singles titlist on the WTA. She claimed her first championship at the end of last season in Hong Kong, and picked up a second title in Hua Hin earlier this year.

On Sunday, former Top 10 player Mladenovic re-teamed with her former regular doubles partner Caroline Garcia to clinch a decisive live doubles rubber over Simona Halep and Monica Niculescu, sending France past Romania into the Fed Cup final.

Pauline Parmentier was also a key player for France in last weekend's victorious Fed Cup tie. Parmentier won her singles rubber against Irina-Camelia Begu to keep her squad alive in the tie, and her triumph set up Mladenovic and Garcia to play and eventually win the doubles. On Wednesday in Istanbul, she will face qualifier Elena Rybakina for the first time.

Parmentier is the defending champion in Istanbul. She won her first of two 2018 WTA singles here last year with a victory over Polona Hercog in the final. She also won the title in Quebec City at the end of last year, for her fourth career WTA singles title.

This will be the first meeting between Margarita Gasparyan and Mihaela Buzarnescu, in a matchup between two of 2018's singles champions. Gasparyan won her second career WTA singles title in Tashkent last year, while Buzarnescu claimed her first at San Jose last season, pushing her to a career-high ranking of World No.20.

Lara Arruabarrena won her only prior meeting with Rebecca Peterson, a straight-set victory in the first round of Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Arruabarrena started the event with a bang after knocking out No.1 seed Carla Suárez Navarro in the opening round on Tuesday.
