In their last meeting, Belinda Bencic and Dayana Yastremska played one of the best matches of the 2018 season in the Luxembourg semifinals, with Bencic emerging on top of a 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(5) epic. The Swiss player leads the overall head-to-head 2-1, with both of her wins coming on indoor hard courts, having also defeated Yastremska in the 2017 St Petersburg ITF 100K final. The Ukrainian was the victor in the pair's only previous outdoor hard court contest, 7-6(5), 7-6(3) in New Haven qualifying last year.

21-year-old Belgian Greet Minnen had never competed in a WTA main draw or defeated a Top 100 player until this week - indeed, she had only played two previous WTA qualifying draws (Luxembourg 2016 and 2018) and faced one Top 100 player in her career. Now, the World No.348 is in her maiden quarterfinal with three Top 100 scalps - Katie Boulter, Kateryna Kozlova and Magda Linette - under her belt, and faces 2016 Hobart champion Alizé Cornet in a bid to go even further.

Anna Karolina Schmiedlova leads a varied head-to-head against Irina-Camelia Begu 3-2. In their first encounter, in the second round of the Nanjing 125K in 2013, the Slovak won 6-0, 6-0, but their most recent meeting was a three-hour, 19-minute epic in the first round of Roland Garros last year in which Begu prevailed 6-4, 5-7, 9-7. Schmiedlova has won both of the pair's outdoor hard court matches in straight sets, adding a 6-1, 6-3 Cincinnati third-round victory to the Nanjing double bagel.

No.7 seed Kirsten Flipkens will be aiming for her first semifinal showing since her run to the 'sHertogenbosch final last June - also the last time that the Belgian won back-to-back main draw matches - against Sofia Kenin, who is bidding for her third career WTA semifinal following Mallorca and Québec City last year.
