World No.1 Simona Halep intends to begin her 2019 season without a coach following the departure of Darren Cahill, according to reports in Romanian media.
Cahill and Halep announced a break from their successful partnership at the start of November, with the Australian saying he intended to spend more time with his family during 2019.
And now Halep has been reported as saying that she does not intend to appoint a replacement in the immediate future.
“I thought about it and I will not have a coach in the following period. I want to go to some tournaments on my own and we’ll see how that goes,” she is quoted as saying.
Reports also suggest that Halep - who won the French Open in 2018 - has her eyes on winning Wimbledon next season.

"I want a new Grand Slam trophy, it's a goal every year," she has been quoted as saying, adding that success in SW19 would be sweet; she has reached the semifinals once, losing to Eugenie Bouchard in 2014, and the quarterfinals in 2017, when she was knocked out by home favorite Johanna Konta in an epic encounter.
Halep topped the Year-End Rankings in 2018, but was forced to pull out of the Singapore finals due to a back injury, which limited her playing time towards the end of the season.
