MATCH POINTS

Aryna Sabalenka and Carla Suarez Navarro are meeting for the first time.

Carla Suarez Navarro is yet to drop a set at New Haven this week, having benefited from one walkover and two retirements. Aryna Sabalenka has dropped one set, against Daria Gavrilova in the second round.

No Spaniard or Belarusian has made the final of the event since it moved to New Haven.

Three New Haven finals have featured an early finish since 2003, the most recent seeing Svetlana Kuznetsova win the title 11 years ago, following Agnes Szavay's retirement when leading 4-6, 3-0.

Two of the last seven New Haven finals have gone to three sets - Petra Kvitova taken the distance by compatriot Lucie Safarova in 2015 and Daria Gavrilova also taken to three by Dominika Cibulkova last year.
