Samantha Stosur's trainer Joshua Eagle has credited the success in her career to the intensity and hard work she puts in off the court.

"Great players, what they all do well whether it's men or women, is their intensity and quality is off the charts," he said. "It's not by chance that they have success."

Eagle, who has been Stosur's coach since 2017, insists the improvements he is trying to make to her game are only slight.

"She's so experienced, she knows by-and-large what she's trying to do," he said. "With Sam what we like to do is keep it very simple, focusing on just a couple of things like trying to swing through the forehand, try and rotate and get through the backhand."

Joshua Eagle, who has been Stosur's coach since the beginning of the 2017 season, has also been the Australian Davis Cup coach since 2013

Stosur, the 2011 US Open champion, says that at 34 she still has a real love for the game.

"I love practicing. I probably play more points now so I can work on a few things. But being told you're going to practice a certain amount of time in a day has never been a problem because I really love it, it's fun."

Stosur also says working with Eagle allows her to "be aggressive, go for it, hit the big shots," something she will be hoping can bring her success during the rest of the 2018 season.
