"I'm really happy to be transitioning back to hardcourts, because it's one of my favorite surfaces," she told Andrew Krasny during her on-court intervew. "I'm just going to enjoy this week. It was a little bit windy, but I got used to it, and I was just trying to find my game throughout the match."

The Claro Open Colsanitas champion is back on the surface on which she won the junior US Open two years ago, and played impressive tennis to reach her fifth quarterfinal of the season after 54 minutes on Stadium Court.

Anisimova enjoyed major breakthroughs at her first two Grand Slam appearances of the season, reaching the second week in Melbourne and getting within games of the final in Paris - falling to eventual champion and future World No.1 Ashleigh Barty - but is playing her first tournament since a surprising second round loss to Magda Linette at Wimbledon.

Opening the week after a first round bye, the 17-year-old got to work on Brengle, breaking to love early in the match and racing out to a 5-1 lead.

Brengle showed poise to save a set point and break the teenager as she served for the set, but Anisimova was unmoved, breaking back in the next game to claim the set.

Dropping serve for a second straight time, the French Open semifinalist shook off the early deficit to win six of the final seven games, securing victory on her second match point.

In all, she struck an even 18 winners to 19 unforced errors while converting eight of 12 break point opportunities to edge into the last eight in under an hour, where the American will next face China's Zheng Saisai, who upset No.8 seed and 2018 San Jose semifinalist Danielle Collins earlier in the day.
