Marketa Vondrousova has reached a career-best ranking of WTA World No.14, despite going out in the second round of Eastbourne last week.

The 20-year-old Czech player powered to the final of the French Open before taking a fortnight off to return at the grass court tournament. She overcame Saisai Zheng in her first encounter but was unable to see off Elise Mertens over three sets in the round of 32.

Compatriot Karolina Pliskova, who went on to win the tournament, defeating Angelique Kerber in the final, remains the WTA World No.3.

The only movement in the Top 10 is Serena Williams’ return to this elite group, with Aryna Sabalenka’s failure to defend her points at Eastbourne, where she reached the final in 2018, allowing the American to return after dropping out at the start of June.

Here are the other notable movers in the WTA Ranking this week:

Ekaterina Alexandrova (+7, No.52 to No.45): Enjoyed a memorable run at Eastbourne, where she eliminated Ajla Tomljanovic, No.10 seed Belinda Bencic and Jelena Ostapenko before succumbing to Pliskova in the quarterfinals.

Alizé Cornet (+4, No.55 to No.51): Another Eastbourne quarterfinalist, the Frenchwoman took the scalp of No.5 seed Elina Svitolina before going down to Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinals over three sets.

Ons Jabeur (+6, No.62 to No.56): Ultimately had to withdraw from Eastbourne due to injury, but not before she had reached the semifinal stage. Notably beat Johanna Konta with a fine display of shot making.

Samantha Stosur (+13, No.132 to No.119): The Australian is the big mover in the Top 150 thanks to her run to the second round of Eastbourne, where she had to qualify, beating Iga Swiatek and Magda Linette in the process. Then ousted Mallorca champion Sofia Kenin from the main draw.

Danka Kovinic (+25, No.187 to No.162): Victorious in an ITF event in Ystad, the Montenegrin, who was the top seed, is close to breaking back into the Top 150.

Richel Hogenkamp (+12, No.176 to No.164): Finished as the runner-up in Ystad, where she was the No.2 seed.
