MATCH POINTS

Former World No.1 players Angelique Kerber and Karolina Pliskova will face off on Saturday for the Nature Valley International singles title, in their first meeting of 2019.

Reigning Wimbledon champion Kerber leads the head-to-head 7-4, and has won their only prior match on grass, which was the 2015 Birmingham final. Kerber needed a final-set tiebreak to win that match and claim the first grass-court title of her career.

Pliskova won their most recent match, which was a straight-set victory on the indoor clay of Stuttgart in a Fed Cup match last April.

Kerber is a two-time runner-up at Eastbourne, falling to Tamira Paszek in the 2012 final and Madison Keys in the 2014 final. She has a career win-loss record of 17-5 at the event.

Germany's Kerber received a walkover into the final after Ons Jabeur had to withdraw from their scheduled semifinal match due to injury. She is seeking her first title since she won her third Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last year.

Pliskova has not dropped a set en route to making the Eastbourne final for the third time in four years. The Czech won the title in 2017, defeating Caroline Wozniacki in the final, and was runner-up in 2016, losing to Dominika Cibulkova. She has improved to 15-3 at the tournament after her commanding semifinal victory over World No.4 Kiki Bertens.

In the doubles draw, Kirsten Flipkens and Bethanie Mattek-Sands have reached the final of their first tournament as partners. They will play the Chan sisters, Latisha and Hao-ching, for the Nature Valley International doubles crown. The final features two former World No.1 players in doubles (Mattek-Sands and Latisha Chan).
