Garbiñe Muguruza has received a check of $5000 from WTA Charities for her charity, Room To Read.
The charity operates in Asia and Africa and promotes literacy in girls and young women, encouraging reading and supporting them through education with the intent of helping them gain necessary life skills.
Muguruza has been an ambassador for the charity's work since 2016.
“I would like to thank the WTA for helping me raise awareness and funds for my charity, Room To Read," said the two-time Grand Slam champion. "It is vital that we help educate girls and young ladies where circumstances are difficult. They are the ones that can make an enormous difference in their communities.
"After funding a beautiful school library and implementing our literacy program at Banlech Prasat Primary School in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia, my new goal with Room to Read is to empower a community of young women in Cambodia. The goal is to raise $50,000 that will provide a community of 167 girls with access to RTR's lifechanging Girls’ Education Program and will move them closer to graduating secondary school.
