MATCH POINTS

The final will be the first meeting between wildcard Karolina Muchova and qualifier Jil Teichmann, who had only one quarterfinal showing combined between them at WTA level prior to this week (Muchova's last-eight run in Doha in February). This is the second final of 2019 to feature two players going for their first title (following Amanda Anisimova's defeat of Astra Sharma in Bogota) and the first final between maiden finalists since last July, when Olga Danilovic beat Anastasia Potapova at the Moscow River Cup and Wang Qiang triumphed over Zheng Saisai in Nanchang in the same week.

World No.106 Muchova and World No.146 Teichmann are the first players ranked outside the Top 100 to make the Prague final. Teichmann is the third qualifier to do so, following 2015 runner-up Lucie Hradecka and 2017 champion Mona Barthel. They are the fourth and fifth players beneath the Top 100 to reach a WTA final this season after World No.152 Bianca Andreescu in Auckland, World No.138 Astra Sharma in Bogota and World No.115 Iga Swiatek in Lugano; the last time a WTA final was contested between players ranked this low was Tashkent last year, where World No.299 Margarita Gasparyan defeated World No.132 Anastasia Potapova.

Muchova's presence means that every edition of this tournament since its return in 2015 has featured at least one Czech finalist. The 22-year-old is aiming to become the fourth home champion following Karolina Pliskova in 2015, Lucie Safarova in 2016 and Petra Kvitova last year.

Muchova is guaranteed to make her Top 100 debut next week, while Teichmann still needs to win the title to break through to that echelon.

Former junior World No.3 Teichmann's defeat of Barbora Strycova in the semifinals was a career-best win by ranking, and her second Top 50 scalp following her win over Samantha Stosur in the first round of Wuhan in 2017. The 21-year-old's previous biggest final was at the ITF W100 in Cagnes-sur-Mer in 2017, which she lost 6-3, 6-3 to Beatriz Haddad Maia; her biggest titles to date are three ITF W25s across 2016 and 2017 in Montpellier, Périgueux and Chiasso.

Muchova has reached two ITF W80 finals in her career so far, both in the Czech Republic, losing in Prague to Marketa Vondrousova in 2017 and in Olomouc to Fiona Ferro last year. Muchova has only won two pro singles titles at any level to date - two ITF W10s, in Michalovce in 2014 and Sharm el Sheikh in 2016.
