LUGANO, Switzerland - Reigning junior Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek downed the highest remaining seed at the Samsung Open presented by cornèr on Thursday.

The Polish teenager upset No.3 seed Viktoria Kuzmova in three sets to reach her first WTA quarterfinal, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

The 17-year-old World No.115 withstood 11 aces from Kuzmova, and saved six of the seven break points she faced, to move into the last eight in just her fourth career WTA main draw appearance.

The win over the World No.46 is the first Top 50 victory over the teenager's career, and moves her into a quarterfinal meeting with No.8 seed Vera Lapko of Belarus.

Lapko surrendered just two games to beat Russia's Evgeniya Rodina in other second-round action on Thursday, 6-2, 6-0.
