MATCH POINTS

Viktoria Kuzmova will play her fifth quarterfinal of 2019. She has only won one of her previous four, a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Amanda Anisimova in Auckland.

Andrea Petkovic won the pair’s only previous meeting, which came on the ITF Tour on clay in 2018. She claimed the Cagnes-sur-Mer encounter, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Kiki Bertens has won all 14 matches she has played in 2019 against players outside of the Top 100.

The Dutchwoman, who is one of three players on Tour with more than 50 wins this year, is aiming to reach her 10th semifinal of 2019.

Coco Gauff, 15, will play her first WTA Tour level quarterfinal – the youngest since Sesil Karatantcheva at Gold Coast 2005.

Kristina Mladenovic is fighting to finish 2019 with a winning record in singles. She has won 24 times and lost 23.

Ekaterina Alexandrova came into this tournament having recorded her best win of the season in Beijing, where she beat WTA World No.4 Simona Halep.

The Russian’s tiebreak record for 2019 is 1-10.

Jelena Ostapenko, who shocked Karolina Pliskova in Beijing last week, will play her first singles quarterfinal since June in Birmingham. Her last semifinal was Wimbledon 2018.

This will be Elena Rybakina’s third quarter of the latest Asian swing, having reached the last eight in Wuhan and the final in Nanchang.
