MATCH POINTS

Both semifinals will see players face each other for the first time on the WTA Tour.

Wang Yafan will seek to become the first Chinese player to reach the final of the Korea Open.

The No.8 seed will play her first semifinal since Acapulco, where she ultimately won the title. Her only other appearance in the final four of a tournament in 2019 came right at the start of the year in Shenzhen.

Karolina Muchova’s only previous WTA Tour semifinal came in Prague earlier this year, where she beat Bernarda Pera on the clay.

Magda Linette is seeking to replicate the achievement of compatriot Agnieszka Radwanska in winning the tournament.

The Pole has recent title-winning success, having picked up the title in the Bronx a month ago after qualifying.

Ekaterina Alexandrova is in her first semifinal since Budapest in February, where she suffered a three-set defeat to Alison Van Uytvanck.

Her last WTA Tour final came in Linz in October 2018, where she lost to Camila Giorgi.

The Russian is aiming to emulate Kiki Bertens, who won the 2018 edition as No.2 seed.

Only once in the last seven years has the champion of this tournament not been seeded either No.1 or 2.
