Karolina Pliskova’s impressive victory at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia gave her the biggest title of her career to date on clay, pushed her to WTA World No.2 and saw her leapfrog Naomi Osaka into second place in the Porsche Race to Shenzhen.
With her victory in the Italian capital, where she beat Johanna Konta, 6-3, 6-4 in the final, she became just the third player on the WTA Tour to pick up multiple titles this season, following in the footsteps of Petra Kvitova and Kiki Bertens.
Otherwise, there was no movement in the Top 10, with Kvitova retaining top spot.
There was, however, an impressive gain for Britain’s Konta, who jumped 25 spots into position No.13, while Maria Sakkari also enjoyed a profitable week as she skipped 17 rungs up the latter into 18th.
In the doubles race, meanwhile, the most notable move was made by Rome winners Victoria Azarenka and Ashleigh Barty, who have leapt into the Top 8, having been 23 at the beginning of the week.
Barbora Strycova and Hsieh Su-Wei leapfrogged Elise Mertens and Aryna Sabalenka into third, while the other movement in the Top 8 saw the Czech combination of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova overtake Kristina Mladenovic and Timea Babos.
