MATCH POINTS

Kiki Bertens and Johanna Konta have split their four previous meetings. Bertens won their only match since 2017, which came at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells earlier this year. Bertens claimed that victory in straight sets in the third round.

Madrid champion Bertens is bidding for her ninth straight victory. She advanced to the semifinals via walkover after World No.1 Naomi Osaka withdrew from their scheduled match due to a hand injury.

Karolina Pliskova and Maria Sakkari have met only once before, and it came last year at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia. Sakkari won that second-round match 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Bertens and Sakkari are the clay-court match-win leaders for 2019 to date. Each has won 12 matches on the surface so far this season. Sakkari claimed her first-ever WTA singles title at Rabat earlier this month, while Bertens won the Mutua Madrid Open last week.

Sakkari is the first qualifier to reach the Rome semifinals since Daria Gavrilova pulled off the feat in 2015.
