Karolina Pliskova has won 12 of her 17 previous matches against players from the United States.

CoCo Vandeweghe is seeking her third career singles title, while victory for Karolina Pliskova would give her a 10th success.

Both players are playing in their first final of 2018.

CoCo Vandeweghe has won three of the pair's four previous encounters, triumphing at Wimbledon in 2015, Dubai in 2016 and at the US Open last year. Karolina Pliskova's only win came in Stuttgart last year.

All four of the pair's previous meetings went to a tie-break in the opening set before being decided on the second set.

Both players have dropped just one set en route to Sunday's final. Karolina Pliskova was pegged back by Jelena Ostapenko in the quarterfinal, while Laura Siegemund took a set off CoCo Vandeweghe in the last 16.

CocCo Vandeweghe beat three seeds on her way to the final, defeating Simona Halep [1], Caroline Garcia [6] and Sloane Stephens [7], while Karolina Pliskova accounted for Jelena Ostapenko [4] in the last eight.

Four of the last seven titles have been won by German players, Julia Goerges, Angelique Kerber, twice, and Laura Siegemund celebrating either side of Maria Sharapova's three consecutive titles between 2012 and 2014.
