ST. PETERSBURG, FL, USA - The WTA Player Awards are out, with nine players being honored by fans and media for their outstanding achievements on and off the court, as well as two tournaments being honored by the players.

Petra Kvitova was voted Player Of The Year for a season that saw her win six WTA titles - including her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships - and going from No.34 at the start of the year to No.2 at year-end. She also led the Czechs to the Fed Cup title.

"This season has been simply a dream," Kvitova said. "It is an incredible honor to win the Player Of The Year award and join the ranks of some of the best players that have ever played the sport, especially Martina Navratilova. I will always cherish the 2011 season and look forward to building on it."

For her on-court achievements, Kvitova was also named Most Improved Player and was further honored with the Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award, which acknowledges a player's professionalism, attitude and sense of fair play.

Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik earned Doubles Team Of The Year. In a fiercely-contested doubles season, they claimed a WTA-leading six titles, including their first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon. They also rose to No.1.

Irina-Camelia Begu won Newcomer Of The Year after a breakthrough season that saw her rise from No.214 to No.38, finishing at No.40. She reached her first two WTA finals at clay court events in Marbella and Budapest.

Comeback Player Of The Year honors went to Sabine Lisicki. Having nearly cracked the Top 20 after a 2009 season that saw her win the Premier title in Charleston and reach her first Grand Slam quarterfinal at Wimbledon, Lisicki went even higher in 2011, winning two WTA titles at Birmingham and Dallas, reaching her first Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon and peaking at No.15.

For her off-court achievements Francesca Schiavone won the Player Service Award, which recognizes the player who has done the most to support her fellow players through the WTA Players' Council and other initiatives.

The winners of the annual player awards for Player of the Year, Doubles Team of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year are determined by the global tennis media, with WTA players themselves selecting Tournaments Of The Year, Sportsmanship and Player Service awards.

Fans were also given an opportunity to vote for their Favorite Singles Player (won by Agnieszka Radwanska), Favorite Doubles Team (won by Victoria Azarenka and Maria Kirilenko) and Breakthrough Player (Kvitova).

WTA players also voted on Tournaments Of The Year, with the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart retaining its crown as favorite Premier event, and the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL in Acapulco named favorite International event. The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix has been a player favorite tour stop for years with the event's close proximity to beautiful Stuttgart and first class accommodations that offer the athletes the best possible experience.
