Bacsinszky gives back with meet and greet in Gstaad
GSTAAD, Switzerland - Though she's not competing on the court this week at the Ladies Championship Gstaad, that didn't stop Timea Bacsinszky from delighting her fans at home in partnership with WTA Charities.
The Swiss star met with a group of people from Stiftung Alpenruhe (Alpine Rest), a local charity in the Gstaad area that provides residential and occupational support for those who live with a range of physical and psychological impairments.
As well as providing housing, the charity operates workshops where residents make a range of products, from decorative craft items to kitchen utensils, which are then sold in the wider community. The residents can also work in the garden and with farm animals, with the goal being to build confidence and as much independence as possible.
The Swiss No.1 answered questions from the group, signed balls and posed for photos, and the meet and greet was part of a wider ‘backstage’ tournament experience and hugely enjoyed by the participants.
In addition, Bacsinszky serves as UNAIDS Global Ambassador for Young People, with a particular focus on the #ProTestHIV campaign, and she also works with Caritas, the Catholic relief, development and social service organization that operates around the world.
