No.4 seed Angelique Kerber is bidding to make her third Eastbourne final in her first meeting with Ons Jabeur today. The German was runner-up to Tamira Paszek in 2012 and Madison Keys in 2014. A win today would also put Kerber in her second final of the season following Indian Wells, which she lost to Bianca Andreescu; the defending Wimbledon champion has not won a title since triumphing in SW19 last year.

No.2 seed Karolina Pliskova squares off against No.3 seed Kiki Bertens for the sixth time today. Bertens leads the head-to-head 3-2 and 1-0 on grass, having won their two most recent meetings 6-3, 7-6(1) in the fourth round of Wimbledon last year and 6-2, 6-2 in the second round of Cincinnati a month later. Pliskova's two victories in the series came via retirement in the pair's first meeting, way back in 2010 in an ITF W25 event in Glasgow, and 6-2, 6-2 on the indoor clay of Stuttgart last year.

Former champion Karolina Pliskova is seeking to make her third Eastbourne final in the past four years. The Czech was runner-up to Dominika Cibulkova in 2016, then went one better to win the title over Caroline Wozniacki in 2017. Pliskova's coach Conchita Martínez is also a former finalist here, having been runner-up to Chanda Rubin in 2003.

For the second year running, Ons Jabeur has turned her form around on grass. In 2018, the Tunisian had lost nine of her first 10 matches of the year, and came into the grass swing with a 7-14 overall win-loss record (0-5 in WTA main draws) - before winning the Manchester ITF W100 title and earning a wildcard into Wimbledon. This year, Jabeur was 5-10 in WTA main draws before this week - but has snapped out of her slump to reach her second career semifinal (following her Moscow final run last October).

This time last year, Kiki Bertens had only one grass-court semifinal to her name ('s-Hertogenbosch 2015). But today, the Dutchwoman is bidding to notch up four victories in her third straight grass tournament following her Wimbledon quarterfinal run last year and 's-Hertogenbosch final two weeks ago.

Both Karolina Pliskova and Kiki Bertens are aiming to make their fourth final of 2019 today. Pliskova captured titles in Brisbane and Rome, and was runner-up in Miami, while Bertens was the champion in St. Petersburg and Madrid, and the runner-up in 's-Hertogenbosch. Only Ashleigh Barty (winner in Miami, Roland Garros and Birmingham) has won more than two titles this season.

Simona Halep is bidding to make her third career doubles final with a third different compatriot. Previously, the former World No.1 was runner-up in Montréal in 2016 with Monica Niculescu, and the 2018 Shenzhen champion with Irina-Camelia Begu. Partner Raluca Olaru was won nine WTA doubles titles since 2008, but victory with Halep today would mark only her second Premier-level final following Moscow last year (alongside Darija Jurak).
