Belinda Bencic: The resurgent Swiss announced her return to the WTA's elite in a big way with a run to the title in Dubai, where she knocked off four Top 10 players to win the Premier 5 event.

Bencic won her third career WTA singles title at Dubai, defeating former champion Kvitova in the final as the last of four consecutive wins against the WTA elite.
Beginning in the round of 16, Bencic defeated Aryna Sabalenka after she saved six match points, before taking our Simona Halep in the quarterfinals, and Elina Svitolina in the semifinals.
With the victory, the former World No.7 returned to the Top 30 for the first time since September of 2016.
Simona Halep: After a run of nine matches over 13 days in the Middle East, Halep notched runner-up and quarterfinal showings in Doha and Dubai, respectively.
After losing her grip on the World No.1 ranking following the Australian Open, the Romanian returned to World No.2 following her efforts in February.

Halep was only undone in her run by eventual champions, as she was runner-up to Mertens in Doha and lost out to Bencic in the last eight in Dubai.
Petra Kvitova: Kvitova had no letdown in February following a runner-up finish at the Australian Open, as she reached the quarterfinals and semifinals of the two events that she competed in for the month.
As the defending champion at the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy, Kvitova defeated Victoria Azarenka in her first match following the Australian Open final, before falling to eventual runner-up Donna Vekic, and won three three-setters in four matches to reach her third final of the season in Dubai.
She rallied from a set down against Katerina Siniakova in her opener, also needed three sets to defeat Jennifer Brady in the round of 16, and later came from a set behind against Hsieh Su-wei in the semifinals as well before falling just short against Bencic.
