MATCH POINTS

This will be the 10th time that Barbora Strycova and Alizé Cornet have played, and the eighth time on the WTA Tour. Cornet holds 6-3 winning record.

Strycova has won all of the last three meetings on hard courts, including a Fed Cup success in 2016 and a win in Wuhan 2018 – the last time the paid played.

The Czech is the only former champion in action on Tuesday. She beat Magdelena Rybarikova in the 2017 final.

Stefanie Voegele and Maria Sakkari have faced off twice before, but only once on the WTA Tour. The Swiss has won both previous meetings, including Acapulco 2018. She has not dropped a set against the WTA World No.30.

Julia Goerges has a 13-8 winning record against players in the Top 100 on hard courts in 2019.

She is seeking to avoid a repeat of last year’s first-round exit, where she was beaten by wildcard Andrea Petkovic in three sets.

Belinda Bencic was pushed all the way in her only previous match with Anna-Lena Friedsam before coming out on top, 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 at Wimbledon 2015.

Donna Vekic has won seven of her last eight matches against players in the Top 50, dating back to a three-set win over Madison Keys in Toronto.

Vekic only won two games in a first-round loss to Timea Babos in this tournament a year ago.
