Ended last season by lifting seventh ITF Circuit title of her career, at W80 Tyler, USA

In Tour-level events last season, reached 3r at Phillip Island Trophy and made 2r on nine further occasions

Best result of 2020 was R-Up finish at WTA 125K Series event at Indian Wells (l. Begu), while at Tour-level, sole main draw win came in 2r showing at Istanbul

Appeared in her third WTA final at 2019 Hiroshima, falling to compatriot Hibino in the first all-Japanese final since 1997 when Sawamatsu defeated Yoshida in Jakarta

She later teamed with Hibino and won the Hiroshima doubles title - her first appearance in a WTA doubles final in four years
