Moyuka Uchijima defeated US Open junior champion Mika Stojsavljevic, 15, in 2 hours and 51 minutes in the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis first round. Uchijima won the first set from 3-1 down, missed three match points in the second set and won the third set from 5-2 down. Stojsavljevic was making her WTA main-draw debut.
