ST PETERSBURG, FL, USA – The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced today that the doubles team of Chan Yung-Jan and Martina Hingis have earned the 2017 WTA Year-End World No.1 doubles ranking, presented by Dubai Duty Free.

Chinese Taipei’s Chan and Hingis, of Switzerland, become the fifth team in the history of the WTA to finish the year as Co-World No.1s, following Lisa Raymond/Samantha Stosur (2006), Cara Black/Liezel Huber (2007-09), Sara Errani/Roberta Vinci (2013-14) and Hingis/Sania Mirza (2015).

Chan and Hingis lifted a tour-leading nine trophies in 2017, including their maiden Grand Slam title as a team at the US Open, in addition to the BNP Paribas Open (Indian Wells), Mutua Madrid Open, Internazionali BNL d’Italia (Rome), Mallorca Open, Aegon International Eastbourne, Western & Southern Open (Cincinnati), Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open and the China Open (Beijing). They reached the quarterfinals or better at all events contested this season.

“Latisha and I are excited to end the year as the World No.1 doubles team,” said Hingis. “To finish the season on top is a testament to all of the hard work we put in this year.”

Chan added: “It was always my goal to reach World No.1, but to be the year-end No.1 doubles team with Martina is a true honor, and I’m proud of all that we have accomplished together.”

Hingis returned to the top of the doubles rankings on October 2, 2017, and stands 12th in the WTA record books with 70 weeks as doubles World No.1. Chan reached the top spot on October 23, 2017, following her 11th doubles title of 2017 at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open (w/sister Chan Hao-Ching).

The team earned the top seed at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, where they were presented with the 2017 WTA Doubles Team of the Year award during the Gala Evening.

The WTA Year-End No.1 doubles trophy was presented to Chan and Hingis by WTA President, Micky Lawler.
