Being No.1 does not affect my game, says Pliskova
CINCINNATI, OH, USA - Karolina Pliskova insists the added pressure of being WTA World No.1 does not affect the way she approaches matches. The Czech was confirmed in top spot last month and is competing in the Western & Southern Open this week, with the US Open looming.
"For me the ranking doesn't matter that much," she told wtatennis.com. "If you are first or second, you still have to go out on the court and play your best tennis, otherwise you are going to lose. It's just a position in the tournaments, with the seeds - otherwise everything is staying the same."
Pliskova reached the final at Flushing Meadows last year having won the tournament in Cincinnati in advance and is hopeful of a long run in both events again. "I want to leave everything [in Cincinnati], then I have some time to prepare and rest a bit," the 25-year-old said. "I won the tournament here last year and want to get it again. It will be difficult because there is a strong group but everything is possible. I am feeling well and confident on the hardcourts so I think I have a chance."
