ST PETERSBURG, FL, USA – The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced today that the doubles team of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova have earned the 2018 WTA Year-End World No.1 Doubles Ranking presented by Dubai Duty Free.

By reaching the final at the 2018 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, the all-Czech pairing becomes the sixth team in the history of the WTA to finish the year as Co-World No.1s, following Lisa Raymond/Samantha Stosur (2006), Cara Black/Liezel Huber (2007-09), Sara Errani/Roberta Vinci (2013-14), Martina Hingis/Sania Mirza (2015) and Latisha Chan/Martina Hingis (2017).

Krejcikova and Siniakova first earned the No.1 doubles ranking on October 22, 2018, entering the 2018 WTA Finals Singapore as the top seeds. They became the 40th and 41st women to sit atop the doubles rankings since WTA Rankings were introduced in 1975, also becoming the 14th pair to hold the co-No.1 status.

“Dubai Duty Free is pleased to congratulate Barbora and Katerina on earning the 2018 WTA Year End No.1 doubles ranking," said Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman & CEO, Dubai Duty Free. “We are honored to present the Year-End No.1 trophy to Barbora and Katerina which highlights their outstanding 2018 on court accomplishments, and we look forward to welcoming them both at the 2019 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.”

Krejcikova and Siniakova clinched their first two Grand Slam doubles titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon this year, becoming the first team to lift both trophies in the same year in 15 years (Kim Clijsters and Ai Sugiyama achieved this feat in 2003). Having also won the junior Wimbledon doubles title in 2013, they became the first team to ever win both the girls’ and ladies’ doubles title at the All England Club.

The team reached an additional three doubles finals this season at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, Shenzhen Open and the Miami Open presented by Itaú, while the team was also voted WTA’s 2018 WTA Doubles Team of the Year by international media.

“Katerina and I are honored to be the year-end World No.1 doubles team,” said Krejcikova. “We’ve worked hard all season and to finish the year as the top doubles team is an amazing feeling.”

Siniakova added, “Becoming No.1 and winning a Grand Slam this year was our goal and ending the year as the No.1 team is a great accomplishment. I’m proud of all that Barbora and I have achieved this season.”

The WTA Year-End No.1 doubles trophy was presented to Krejcikova and Siniakova by Ramesh Cidambi, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Duty Free and WTA President Micky Lawler at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global.
