MONTREAL, Canada - Mihaela Buzarnescu announced on Twitter that she would miss the US Open Series, after injuring her right ankle at the Coupe Rogers on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old rising Romanian has withdrawn from next week's stop, the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, and could be out for a longer period of time, though she remains entered in the US Open.

Buzarnescu, who had just won her maiden WTA title at the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic and cracked the world's Top 20, was trailing Svitolina 3-6, 7-6(5), 4-3 when she turned on her ankle running out wide for a backhand, ultimately tearing a ligament and stretching two more in the process.

"Good news: no bones broken," she tweeted on Thursday night. "Very sad I won't get to play US Open Series but I'll try my best to recover for the Asian Tour!

"Thank you for all the support. I'll keep you posted."

Buzarnescu also reached out to Svitolina, who aided the rising Romanian after her injury.

"I will be back so we can finish this 3rd set!"
