Kiki Bertens will return to Cincinnati to defend her title as the 2019 Western & Southern Open gets under way, with main draw play beginning on Monday August 12.

The winner of the tournament will take home a check for $544,500.

The runner-up wins $269,576, with each semifinalist receiving $133,850.

The final eight get $62,660, while players reaching the third round win $30,330.

Reaching the second round will mean a player gets $15,600, while those in the first round win $8,300.

Bertens beat Simona Halep in last year's final 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-2, saving one match point, to win her first Premier 5 title and first trophy on hard courts. They are both joined in the 2019 draw by two-time champion Serena Williams and four other former winners - Garbiñe Muguruza, Karolina Pliskova, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova - as well as Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka and Roland Garros champion Ashleigh Barty.
