GUADALAJARA, Mexico - Russian wildcard Sofya Zhuk surrendered just three games en route to a stunning upset in the first round of the Abierto Zapopan over top seed Alizé Cornet on Monday.
The 19-year-old World No.152, who had already beaten the French No.2 in the first round of the BNP Paribas Open a year ago, needed exactly 60 minutes to score a 6-3, 6-0 win on Center Court.

The 2015 junior Wimbledon champion broke serve six times in the win, and lost just five points on serve in the second set after slamming the door on the former World No.11's comeback effort in the first set.
Zhuk had opened up a 5-1 lead over the first six games, but the Frenchwoman won the next two before the Russian arrived at a set point, which she duly converted, in the ninth game.
The other two seeds in action on Monday scored straight-set victories, as No.2 seed Anna Karolina Schmiedlova downed Mandy Minella in the day's first singles match, 6-3, 6-3, while No.7 seed Kristyna Pliskova defeated Chinese teenager and reigning junior US Open champion Wang Xiyu, 6-4, 6-4.
Rounding out notable day one winners was 18-year-old Serbian Olga Danilovic, who scored her first WTA or WTA 125 main draw victory since last fall's Tashkent Open over Spanish lucky loser Paula Badosa Gibert, 6-4, 7-5.
