MATCH POINTS

By winning her quarterfinal match against Muguruza, Svitolina captured her 15th career match victory in Dubai, trailing only  Caroline Wozniacki (22), Jelena Jankovic (21) and Venus Williams (19) among active players.

Eleven of those wins have been consecutive, and she trailed only Justine Henin (17) and Venus Williams (16) in that stat.

Halep's quarterfinal victory over Eugenie Bouchard could prove key to her hopes of winning the title: in the pair's previous three meetings, the winner of their match has gone on to reach the final of that particular tournament.

The Romanian's quarterfinal victory was her 200th at main-draw level on hard courts.

Thursday marks Suárez Navarro's third career appearance in the Dubai quarterfinals (2014 and 2015), but she has never reached the semifinals.

The best result by a Czech player in Dubai was Kvitova’s title run in 2013, but Pliskova was the 2015 runner-up to Halep.
