MATCH POINTS

Angelique Kerber will open her 2019 Nature Valley International campaign against the winner of the first-round match between former US Open champion Samantha Stosur and last week's Mallorca champion Sofia Kenin. Kerber is a two-time runner-up at the event, reaching the final in 2012 (lost to Tamira Paszek) and 2014 (lost to Madison Keys). She has a career win-loss record of 14-5 at the tournament.

Simona Halep will play her first grass-court singles match of the season against Hsieh Su-wei on Tuesday. Their head-to-head is tied at one victory apiece: Halep won their first meeting in Cincinnati in 2013, but Hsieh leveled their rivalry last year, when she shocked the then-World No.1 in the third round of Wimbledon, to win their only prior meeting on grass.

Kiki Bertens, who is seeking her first-ever match-win at the Nature Valley International, brings a 5-1 head-to-head lead into her second-round clash with Yulia Putintseva. Bertens won their most recent match, in Sydney this year by the score of 6-2, 6-2. This will be their first meeting on grass.

Elina Svitolina has won four of her six encounters with Alizé Cornet, including their only previous match on grass, at Birmingham last year. Nevertheless, Cornet took a one-set lead on Svitolina as this match started on Monday, before being interrupted and postponed to Tuesday due to rain.

Two of 2017's Grand Slam champions will face off in the second-round match between Sloane Stephens and Jelena Ostapenko. They have met just once before, but it was a high-profile tilt: the 2018 Miami Open final, which Stephens won in straight sets.

British No.1 Johanna Konta will face Maria Sakkari on Centre Court. They have split their two previous meetings: Konta won their only match on grass, at 2017 Wimbledon in straight sets, but Sakkari won their most recent clash, defeating Konta on clay in the Rabat final earlier this year, which earned Sakkari her first-ever WTA singles title.
