MATCH POINTS
Beatriz Haddad Maia will play her first WTA Tour-level quarterfinal since Seoul 2017, where she went all the way to the final only to lose in three sets to Jelena Ostapenko.
This is Wang Yafan’s third quarterfinal in her four 2019 events. She reached the semis in Shenzhen and the last eight in Hua Hin but lost in the second round at the Australian Open.
Donna Vekic has a losing career head-to-head record against Johanna Konta. The No.3 seed has beaten the Brit only twice, losing three times. Vekic won their last meeting, 6-3, 7-5 on the hard courts of Tokyo, however.
Konta is seeking her first semifinal appearance since Moscow in October.
Sofia Kenin has never previously faced Victoria Azarenka.
Azarenka has lost her last four matches against players from the United States.
Since losing in the US Open first round to Olga Danilovic, Bianca Andreescu has won 38 of her last 43 matches at WTA and ITF Tour level combined, including a 6-2, 7-5 victory over No.4 seed Mihaela Buzarnescu on Wednesday.
