Qualifier Tereza Smitkova, who reached the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2014 and reached a career high of World No.57 the following year, won her first WTA main draw match since Luxembourg 2016 over Ysaline Bonaventure on Tuesday and will now bid for her second career quarterfinal (following Shenzhen 2015) against No.3 seed Pauline Parmentier.

Georgina Garcia Perez has navigated through Budapest qualifying for the second consecutive year; 2018 saw the Spaniard make her WTA main draw debut here, losing to Aleksandra Krunic

Garcia Perez is on a four-match winning streak, having been instrumental in her country's Fed Cup World Group II first-round defeat of Japan two weeks ago: the 26-year-old went undefeated in both singles (against Misaki Doi and ) and the deciding doubles, partnering María José Martínez Sánchez to beat Miyu Kato and Makoto Ninomiya.
