Simona Halep will end her 2017 season as the WTA World No.1 on and off the court, not only topping the rankings but also earning the elusive distinction of WTA Fan Favorite.

Halep ends 2017 WTA Shot of the Year presented by Cambridge Global Payments winner Agnieszka Radwanska's six year reign as Fan Favorite, becoming just the fourth woman to win the fan-led poll since the award was first given in 2009.

Previous winners include Olympic Gold medalist Elena Dementieva and five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova, who finished third in this year's poll.

Halep has long been known for her enthusiastic fanbase, the likes of whom fly Romanian flags and let out their signature "Si-mo-na!" chant during her matches.

"They are coming everywhere I play, so that's amazing," she said back in 2015. " There are many, many people in the crowd, so it's just amazing.  It's really nice to hear your name between the points. It's nice to have people supporting you everywhere."

The Mutua Madrid Open feels the love even from fans who can't make it to Centre Court.

"Many people, wake up to see my matches, because now it's night in my country: my family for sure, my close friends, and some important people for me.

"It's nice to know that.  You know, it gives me more power to fight and to play again."
