After winning her second Grand Slam title Down Under and rising to World No.1, Naomi Osaka earned your votes as the first WTA Player of the Month in 2019.

Osaka moved to the top of the world with her second major title at the Australian Open, which as a result ascended her to the top of the WTA rankings for the first time.

En route to the title, Osaka rallied from a set down against both Hsieh Su-wei and Anastasija Sevastova in the third and fourth rounds, and then ran off victories over No.6 seed Elina Svitolina, former World No.1 Karolina Pliskova and two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the final rounds.

With the victory, Osaka became the first player to win two consecutive Grand Slam trophies since Serena Williams in 2015, and the first player to back up her maiden major title at the next Grand Slam since Jennifer Capriati won the Australian and French Opens in 2001.

In addition, she became the first Asian player to ascend to the top of the WTA rankings.

In your votes, Osaka edged Kvitova, who was the champion at the Sydney International in addition to being runner-up in Melbourne, and Pliskova, who was the Brisbane International champion and shocked Serena Williams from match points down in the quarterfinals before she reached the final four as well.
