Career in Review

2019 - Enjoyed a string of career-best results across last season, which included posting best results at three of the Grand Slams (3r Australian Open, 3r Wimbledon and QF US Open). Additionally reached first Premier Mandatory QF at Miami and posted best win-by-ranking by defeating No.2 Barty at US Open. Her US Open run made her just the fifth Chinese woman to reach a Grand Slam QF (after Lia Na, Zheng Jie, Peng Shuai and Zhang Shuai). Her new career-high ranking of No.12 following New York result made her the second highest ranked Chinese singles player in history (after No.2 Li Na).

2018 - First Top-20 season (finishing No.20); won two WTA titles at Nanchang (d. S.Zheng in final) and Guangzhou (d. Putintseva in final); runner-up at Hong Kong (l. to Yastremska) and Zhuhai (l. to Barty); SF at Hiroshima (l. to Hsieh), Wuhan (l. to Kontaveit) and Beijing (l. to Wozniacki); QF at Strasbourg (l. to Barty); reached 4r once, 3r twice (Roland Garros and US Open) and 2r twice; fell 1r nine times (incl. other two majors) and in qualifying once; having started season at No.45, made Top 20 debut on November 5 (after Zhuhai; rose from No.22 to No.20).

2017 - Finished the year at a career-high No.45 rank, her first year-end Top-50 finish; earned a 125k series title in Zhengzhou (d. Peng Shuai in F); defeated three Top-20 opponents throughout the year: No.15 Vesnina in Rome, No.15 Mladenovic in Tokyo (PPO) and No.17 Stephens in Wuhan; reached SF in Hong Kong (l. Pavlyuchenkova) as well as four QF appearances in Shenzhen, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo (international); reached 2r in Wimbledon but fell in 1r of other three Grand Slams.
