MATCH POINTS
No.1 seed Julia Goerges has a strong record against Viktoria Kuzmova. The German has won each of her two previous meetings with the Slovakian - both this year - coming out on top, 6-4, 6-0 in Auckland, then 6-1, 6-0 in Moscow.
Goerges is a former finalist in Luxembourg, having lost to Roberta Vinci in the 2010 showpiece.
Similarly, Garbiñe Muguruza has won both of her previous matches against Stefanie Voegele. However, the Spaniard has not faced her Swiss opponent since beating her in straight sets in Marrakech in 2014.
WTA World No.24 Carla Suárez Navarro has faced Kristyna Pliskova only once previously, in Linz 2013. She won that battle, 6-2, 6-3.
Johanna Larsson will be confident of upsetting No.5 seed Katerina Siniakova
No.7 seed Maria Sakkari
Wildcard Mandy Minella is taking part in her 15th Luxembourg Open, though she has lost at the first hurdle in her last 10 outings on home soil. She will face Kirsten Flipkens, the No.9 seed, who will play in her 13th tournament here.
Aside from defending champion Carina Witthoeft, Monica Niculescu is the only previous Luxembourg winner in the draw. She claimed the honors in 2016 by beating Petra Kvitova in the final.
